Nearly half of American workers can’t afford a one-bedroom rental. In Collier County, median home prices have surged 42% in the last year—the third highest increase in the nation, according to the National Association of Realtors.
So, where does this leave the low-wage earners in our community?
Affordability has been a challenge in our area for decades. Now, with rental and purchase prices reaching record levels and no real increases in wages, not to mention Hurricane Ian, the difficult search for an affordable place to live is impacting more people than ever.
Once again, those already struggling to make ends meet are the ones who are hit hardest.
Our Saturday morning service projects for Habitat for Humanity home building are a perfect opportunity to support those with housing needs in our community.
All skill levels - from willing learner (no experience) to professional builder - are welcome. Instruction is provided, and volunteers are never required to do any work they are uncomfortable doing.
Just bring a willingness to put in a good morning's work and come away knowing that you have truly helped Habitat provide families a decent place to live in our community.
